I used to drive only shitboxes. I've bought cars at yard sales. I've bartered cars for their true market worth and never left the liquor store. These are the kind of cars that turn into time bombs over 2,500 RPM, and I've know that caveat before buying it (and then went on to own such cars for years).
I had no shame.
The first car I ever paid more than $1500 was my first Honda,a well-loved Del Sol.
I also went for a few years owning no cars, choosing only motorcycles. (Try that in New England; it's fucking cold!) Even with those, it always seemed that, on the highway, using anything above a quarter of the available RPM felt like you'd be picking piston parts out of your pants!
Fast forward a few years and a few gray hairs. I moved 3,000 miles away and left the Honda camp for a bit, but everyone comes back around to V-Tec.
It was this or a 350Z, and those roadsters are ugly with a capital F! Also, those are everywhere, and after the Del Sol (in New England) and an MR2 (in California), I've gotten to like owning quirky little two-seaters that they no longer make. (S2000 + 2009 = RIP.)
I went for it. I bought it in gray to avoid the tickets. I'm still flirting with it, but I like it.
This thing is amazing, and loves 7,500 of its available 8,000 RPM, and seems to want to do it again and again. Fourth gear with my right foot buried into the floorboards effects 90 MPH more easily than a Saab SR-71. It is the first car I've owned that I cannot find enough road - even on multi-lane I-5 through Pendleton - to wind it out on.
At first, I thought that it didn't handle as well as the MR2 and its mid-engine design and weight ratio. I kept accidenltly hitting the traction control and cursing.
That might still be true, but I've since realized that I'm also going a helluva lot faster in it than I would've been going in the MR2! That might have more to do with it!
Anyway, I'm loving it. It's pretty. If I live to 2010, I'll slow down. I promise. Just one more hit off the V-Tec...
Until there's some pix of my own, here's some old ones...

Images (except the top one, which is mine, dammit stolen from http://www.maroxxx.com/S2000/, but that page has been dead for eons, so feh.
